Wookyung Kim has garnered numerous accolades in various international competitions, including First Prize at the Belvedere Competition (Vienna), the Francisco Viñas Competition (Barcelona), and the Plácido Domingo OPERALIA Competition in Los Angeles.

From the 2003/04 season until 2007, Wookyung Kim was a member of the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden, where he performed significant roles in his repertoire, including Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Rodolfo in La Bohème, the Singer in Der Rosenkavalier, Fenton in Falstaff, Ismaele in Nabucco, Macduff in Macbeth, and the Duke in Rigoletto. In 2007, he portrayed Orombello in a concert version of Beatrice di Tenda alongside Edita Gruberova in Dresden. That same year, he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Alfredo in La Traviata, followed by debuts at the Bavarian State Opera as Tamino and at London's Covent Garden as the Duke in Rigoletto.

In the subsequent years, Wookyung Kim performed at Hamburg's State Opera as Rodolfo and Alfredo, as well as Macduff, and at Covent Garden as the Italian Singer in Der Rosenkavalier and again as the Duke. He also appeared at Deutsche Oper Berlin as Rodolfo.

Wookyung Kim expanded his repertoire significantly with roles in new productions in Dresden, including Faust (title role), Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera, Idomeneo (title role), and Erik in Der fliegende Holländer. He returned to Munich's State Opera for performances of La Bohème, Der Rosenkavalier, Simon Boccanegra (Adorno), Erik, and Macduff. He debuted at Toulouse Opera as Tito in Clemenza di Tito and was a guest artist at Tokyo's New National Theatre as Rodolfo and the Duke.

In 2013, he made his debut at Milan's Teatro alla Scala as Macduff and returned to Deutsche Oper Berlin as Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera. He has also been invited to Frankfurt's Opera House for Simon Boccanegra, Don Carlo, and Otello (Cassio), to Amsterdam as Macduff, and to Teatro San Carlo in Naples as Narraboth in Salome.

Wookyung Kim is also highly sought after as a concert singer. His concert engagements include performing Verdi's Messa da Requiem with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra under Lorin Maazel, at the Musikverein Vienna with Fabio Luisi, and with the Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich. He has also held solo concerts featuring Mozart arias with the Munich Philharmonic under James Levine and performed Rossini's Stabat Mater at the Salzburg Festival and in Bregenz. He has participated in several tours with the Bachakademie Stuttgart and Maestro Helmuth Rilling.

Recent highlights of Wookyung Kim's career include the role of Faust at the Florence Opera House, Don José in Carmen, Adorno in Simon Boccanegra, Rodolfo, and Gabriele Adorno at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, as well as Erik at the Semperoper Dresden—a role he recently performed with great success at the Vancouver Opera.
