Biography

Dr. LI Huan is a Lecturer at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Her research specializes in Chinese opera and instrumental music, with a focus on themes such as musical traditions, social changes, musical sustainability, urban music studies, and gender and music studies.

Dr. LI earned her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University. She also holds an M.Phil. in Ethnomusicology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and an M.A. in Musicology, specializing in erhu performance and teaching, from Hunan Normal University.

Dr. LI has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the Yearbook for Traditional Music, Asian Music, and Musicology in China. As an internationally active scholar in ethnomusicology and sinology, she has been invited to present her research at numerous conferences, such as the Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM), the International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance (ICTMD), the ICTMD Study Group on Music of East Asia (MEA), the Association for Chinese Music Research (ACMR), the European Foundation for Chinese Music Research (CHIME), and the Association for Asian Studies in Asia (AAS-in-Asia). Dr. LI also serves on the Coordinating Committee of CHIME (2023-2026), where she assists in organizing the annual CHIME conference and related activities.
