Biography

KONG Laijunwa, an Italian-based soprano, is a faculty member at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. In 2014, she graduated with a Master's degree in Opera Performance from the Conservatorio di Ferrara in Italy, under a full scholarship. In 2024, she earned her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the Philippine Women's University (PWU). From 2014, she taught at the School of Music and Dance, Henan Normal University, where she accumulated extensive teaching experience and practical achievements.

As a lyrical coloratura soprano, she has performed in over 20 operas by composers such as Rossini, Puccini, Mozart, and Donizetti, including the role of Mimì in La Bohème, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, Alice in Falstaff, Micaëla in Carmen, Violetta in La Traviata, Olympia in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Angela in Estaba La Madre, and Maria in Astor Piazzolla María de Buenos Aires. With her beautiful timbre, nuanced emotional interpretation, and exceptional stage presence, she masterfully brings to life the personalities and destinies of operatic characters, demonstrating not only a profound understanding of European classical opera style but also a unique personal artistic sensibility.

She has collaborated with renowned conductors and artistic directors, including Massimiliano Bullo, resident artistic director of La Scala Opera House in Milan; Enza Ferrari, acclaimed Italian opera coach; Carlos Branca, esteemed opera director; and Anne Randine Øverby, distinguished conductor.
