CUI Xiaozheng, Chinese-Korean oboist, Recipient of the Shenzhen Youth May Fourth Medal, is currently serving as Lecturer of the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He is also the Principal Oboist of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Oboe Lecturer at the School of Music, Guest Principal Oboist of the Symphony SONG Orchestra (South Korea), Board Council Member of the Asia Double Reed Association (ADRA), Council Member of the Asia International Music Education Association (AIMEA), Deputy Director and Woodwind Expert Judge of the Asia International Youth Music Award, Woodwind Expert Judge of the Singapore Golden Lion International Music Festival, Woodwind Expert Judge of the China Youth Music Competition - Hummingbird Music Award, Woodwind Expert Advisor and Annual Assessment Woodwind Judge of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, Chief Judge of the Shenzhen Division Preliminary Round and Woodwind Expert Judge of the Finals for the Greater Bay Area Shisheng Cup Music Aesthetics Art Festival, and Council Member of the Shenzhen Youth Musicians Association. Formerly served as a Guest Professor at Shenzhen University and Oboist of the Bern Symphony Orchestra (Switzerland).
CUI Xiaozheng has a profound music education background, having studied under renowned Chinese-Korean oboist Mr. Jin Guangyun, distinguished Chinese-Korean oboe soloist and educator Prof. Piao Changtian, as well as internationally acclaimed oboe soloists Prof. Omar Zoboli and Prof. Heinz Holliger. CUI Xiaozheng graduated from the School of Music of Minzu University of China. He earned the Master-Soloist Degree in music performance at Musik-Akademie Der Stadt Basel (Switzerland). In 2009, he joined the Swiss National Youth Symphony Orchestra (SJSO) as Principal Oboist and served as an oboist with the Bern Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2013. Since 2013, he has been the Principal Oboist of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, participating in nearly a thousand performances of symphonies, operas, and chamber music. As a guest principal oboist, he has collaborated with internationally renowned symphony orchestras, such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. His oboe performances have been highly praised by professional critics at prestigious international music festivals, including the Merano Music Festival (Italy), Bucharest International Music Festival (Romania), and Seoul International Music Festival (South Korea).
He has frequently performed as an oboe soloist, collaborating with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, its Artistic Director Prof. Lin Daye, and Laureate Conductor Prof. Christian Edward in oboe concerto performances during music seasons. CUI Xiaozheng's oboe performances have been highly acclaimed by internationally renowned conductors, such as Zubin Mehta, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Daniele Gatti, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Hannu Lintu, Leif Segerstam, and Hahm Shinik.
CUI Xiaozheng has conducted oboe masterclasses at prestigious art institutions, including the Affiliated Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music, the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, and the Seoul Institute of the Arts (South Korea). His students have repeatedly won awards in international competitions, including the World Classical Music Awards Gold Prize, European Classical Music Awards Gold Prize, European Elite Music Competition Gold Prize, UNESCO International Music Competition First Prize, Asia International Youth Music Award Gold Prize, European Classical Music Awards Winner, and Third Prize at the Switzerland International Music Competition. His professionally trained oboe students have joined renowned orchestras, such as the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, China National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra, China Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, Shanxi Symphony Orchestra, and Baoan Philharmonic Orchestra.
