Introduction to the performers:

Aaron Rosand (1927-2019) was an American classical violinist and violin pedagogue. Hailed as “the Last Romantic Violinist”, he studied with Leon Sametini at the Chicago Musical College and with Efrem Zimbalist at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he taught from 1981 until his death. His noted students include Ray Chen and Yu-Chien Tseng. Particularly noted for his insightful and passionate performances of the romantic repertoire and his beautiful tone, Rosand recorded prolifically and appeared all over the world with many major orchestras and concert organizations.

Gerald Robbins (1945-) has distinguished himself internationally as a soloist and a specialist in chamber music, having performed throughout the world in virtually every major music center, including New York, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Moscow, Jerusalem, and Tokyo. He has appeared with the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, London Mozart Players, Los Angeles Philharmonic, among many others, under such conductors as Sir Neville Marriner, Harry Blech, Okko Kamu, Louis Frémaux, and Zubin Mehta. The recipient of important prizes in major international competitions such as the Van Cliburn and Tchaikovsky International Competitions, he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Southern California, where he assisted in the string master classes of Jascha Heifetz, William Primrose, and Gregor Piatigorsky.
