The ICMC 2023 is about to kick off in Shenzhen
The 2023 International Computer Music Conference, organized by the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) and the International Computer Music Association, is set to commence in Shenzhen on October 15 after a year of preparation. The ICMC is the largest and most important annual international academic conference in the field of computer music. It is held in different countries and regions around the world and has been organized for 47 editions to date. This conference will gather composers and scholars from over 30 countries and regions, who will present the latest achievements in computer music composition and research to the world over the course of six days. Together, they will explore the future development path of computer music and lead new trends in the international music technology field. Hosting such a high-level international academic event highlights the academic status of CUHK-Shenzhen School of Music and underscores its importance in the global cultural sphere. It also represents the specific embodiment of Shenzhen’s transition from a technology-intensive development to the expansion into the cultural and artistic domains.
The ICMC has invited composers, musicians and scholars from around the world to submit works and proposals in four categories: music, papers, sound installations, and workshops. In total, nearly 800 submissions were received from authors in over 30 countries and regions, making it the largest number of submissions received in the history of the conference. During the conference, there will be 20 concerts, 12 paper presentations, 8 interactive installations exhibitions, 4 workshops, 2 keynote speeches, and 3 special lectures on music industry topics. The annual meeting of the International Computer Music Association will also take place during the conference.

Being held in Shenzhen, the ICMC 2023 will play a significant role in promoting research and innovation in the field of music technology in China. We will provide intensive coverage of the conference’s daily activities, including concerts, paper presentations, installations, workshops, keynote speeches, and lectures on music industry topics, throughout the six days from October 15 to 20. The various events of the conference will take place at the campus of CUHK-Shenzhen and the Longgang Cultural Centre. We welcome and look forward to the enthusiastic participation of individuals from both international and domestic communities to share the fruitful achievements in international computer music composition and research.
